The first OffBeat litter

The first (N) OffBeat litter was born 25 Oct 2003. SingSang, formally named Snopus You Sang To Me (ORS bs 25), gave birth to five big kittens. Their birthweight was well over 100 grams for all of them. One girl, four boys.

Unfortunately we lost one of them, called the Sweet One, a seal point boy, who died 10 days old. The Post Mortem showed that he had an intestinal bacterial infection, caused by the natural existing Escherichia Coli bacteria, in addition to partly collapsed lungs, probably due to remaining liquid in his lung sacks. He died in our vet's arms. It all happened during a couple of hours.

Oliver (Havanna) and Oline (Siam) 3 days old.

  Twelve weeks old

Oline (SIA b), sleeping and for once keeping still.

Oline from another angle. The light is strange.

Oliver (ORI b), is growing longer and longer.

Alfons (ORI ns) on top of Wimsey (SIA n).

  The gang of four

Oline (SIA b), waiting for food and company.

Alfons, 9 weeks old. Demanding company.

Oliver (ORI b), 10 weeks, sleeping.

Wimsey (SIA n), 10 weeks old. Purring through life.

  Alfons and Wimsey are sold

On the pictures above you can see Alfons posing with his mother on the kitchen table, and Wimsey fast asleep on his mother's back. They are both sold to a family in Oslo.

Oliver, the Havanna, is still available, although I hope a friend of mine will come to the conclusion that she cannot live without him. He is such a lovely boy.

If you would like to see the father's pedigree, click the link below. His name is EC (GB) EC Aprikat Spidermantotammee, SIA n (aka Spindeln). He belongs to Iréne Eek-Magnusson with the prefix S*Tammee's. You will find her homepage if you go to the links' page.

Proud mother with her five babies the first night.

Three or four days later. They eat and sleep and squeak.

The black silver boy, the evening after he was born.

The chocolate, or havanna, silver boy, the evening after.

Three Siamese, two Oriental Shorthairs

My purpose with the mating between SingSang and Spindeln was to get a daughter from SingSang that I could keep to go further towards my goal to get a silver Oriental that would look the way I want them to look.

Mother Nature doesn't always listen to what breeders ask for, so the only girl in the litter of course had to be a Siamese. I think she is a chocolate point, but whether she has silver or not, remains to see.

She is slightly bigger than the rest of the bunch, and she is already a little lady of strong will (one week old).

Siamese girl, one day old, or young, you might say.

She refuses to wake up to be photographed (1 week old).

I force her to wake up, and she is so, so sleepy.

She is really cross with me on this picture.

They are developing language

Only a couple of days after their birth, they started developing their language skills. They had one sound for "Mummy, help me out here! I want food!" and they had one sound for "Hey, don't you dare suckle on my private tit!" and yet another sound for "Oh, this life ain't so bad? Rub my tummy a little bit more, will you...".

One week old the Siamese girl tried to walk. She got up on wabbly legs and took at least four steps before she fell over.

Her brother, the havanna silver boy, tried to mimic her but didn't stand a chance. He has to eat a bit more first?

One of the seal point brothers. He is a talker.

One more of the talker. He is a tough little guy.

The talker again. He is one of the active ones.

The sweet one in the litter. He is just nice to everybody!

Some pictures from their first week

I write this Sunday Nov 2'nd, so the kittens are one week old today. I still have this dreamlike feeling, but whenever I look into their kitten pen, they are there! Suckling, crawling, trying to walk, making funny noises and sleeping, of course.

They sleep a lot. Experienced breeders have told me to enjoy this particular period in their life. Soon they will be all over the place, and I might not always find them as pleasant as I do today . . .

The chocolate silver boy, one week old.

Black silver boy, one week old. He is NOT a tortie...

Black silver boy again, a bit out of focus.

The Siamese girl again, couple of days old.
