New life: Before Tom Helge and I let ourselves become invaded by cats, we led an ordinary urban life in Oslo. Working hard, going to concerts a lot, travelling a lot (we love Texas! and London, and Paris, and San Francisco, and. . .), going out with friends etc. Things you do when you live in a big city - and then we got Modesty and William.

They changed our life completely. In fact, they are the reason we moved from Oslo to Fredrikstad. We thought they needed a garden of their own . . .

I grew up with a Siamese and since then the Oriental cats have been closest to my heart. Their intelligence, creativity and emotional capacity intrigue me.

It never entered my mind to try and actually breed Siamese cats. The thought started to haunt me during dark Autumn evenings in 2001. In May 2002 I got my prefix, (N) OffBeat, and the dreams about breeding started to get more real. Still, I didn't have a breeding cat, only this dream about a beautiful Siamese female that would be the starting point for my work to produce a Siamese of my own liking.

During Summer 2002 I fell in love with our SingSang, or Snopus You Sang To Me, as her formal name is. She was of course totally wrong: Neither was she a Siamese, nor was she an ordinary Oriental Shorthair. She was a silver cat! Silver is something that makes breeding even more difficult, but that was something I realised long after I had bought her.

Life is full of surprises, and SingSang proved to be one of the nicest ones. The year after SingSang came to us, I finally got my Siamese girl, Littlefeat Dixie Chick, or simply Dixie. And now we have SingSang's daughter Olivia and Dixie's daughter Harriet as well.

Tom Helge is responsible for the design of this web site and he is also the webmaster for it. He is also responsible for many of the pictures both on this site and on Modesty & William's web site.

For many years he claimed that he didn't particularly care for cats, since he believed they didn't care much for him. After 15 years of persuasion, he finally agreed to allow cats in our home -- and it was immediately proved that he had been mistaken. The cats are constantly to be seen around him, upon him or following him where he goes.

Tom's cat is not a Siamese. He says Modesty is a REAL cat...
